Sketchbook

Goals 2017:
This is a double page spread for my 2017 goals for this school year.
Color Theory:
This is a Two-page spread about Color Theory. Included on these pages I put examples and defined 7 color schemes  and did the same for hue, saturation, neutral colors, and intensity. I have included a color wheel with the definition of color.

Digital Painting Sketch:
This is my sketch for what I am planning on doing for my digital painting. We picked what we were going to do by random. For the project I got: Subject: Wild animal, Style: Pop art, and Theme: Space age.

Watercolor Experimenting:
In class we experimented with different types of watercolor to get a feel  for the different kinds. My least favorite was the watercolor pencil because it gave off an unclean look. The watercolor palette was easy to use and you could control it more. The liquid watercolor was very pigmented and dried quickly and the watercolor tube allowed you to control the pigmentation and opacity the best.

Palette Knife Painting:
In our experimentation unit, I used palette knives and tempera paint to make these mountains with a sunset in the background. I layered and mixed paints in different ways on my palette knife in order to get certain outcomes.

Grounds/TOC:
In this part of our experimentation unit I got to experiment with different techniques through my technique of choice (TOC). In my ground, I used a palette knife with metallic tempera paints in the colors gold, silver, and copper. The silhouette of the butterfly was made with black tempera paint. Even though I used the same paints for my ground and butterfly, they both had very different finishes and textures.

Harlem Renaissance:
For this sketch, I had to research artists who created art during the Harlem Renaissance or those whose art was portrayed by the Harlem Renaissance. I researched many different artist's work and have found main themes that flow throughout all of them such as color or the subjects in the piece.

Figure Proportions:
In class, we studied figure proportions and on different days, different students would pose in front of the class and we would have to draw what we saw.

Color Scheme Painting: For this project we had to choose a person to draw and paint and I chose Liza Koshy. We had to draw a grid out and draw their face and body to scale. Then we used tempera paints for each of the 8 color schemes which included: warm, cool, analogous, complimentary, split complimentary, triad, monochromatic, and true. (insert picture here) Tempera Batik Practice: In this project, we learned what the method of tempera batik was and how to make it look good in our artwork. I experimented with different shapes and with the technique itself to see where I drew with the soft pastel affected how my piece looked. (I explained all of the steps in my Tempera Batik Final.) Tempera Batik Final: For this project, we had to practice the method called, tempera batik. You start out by using soft pastels and drawing the outline of what you are drawing. Then you use tempera paint and paint the areas around the pastel. Whenever you are done painting, you then paint a...

The Artist's Eye: In this project I made a two-page spread with my goals for this school year  on them and from that we had to make thumbnail sketches incorporating something from the two-page spread. I used colored pencils for the majority of the eye and then I used graphite pencil for the eyelashes and finally, I used black acrylic paint and a brush to splatter it. Portfolio Cover: This is my portfolio cover for painting. I made it simplistic because I felt like I didn't really have to make it such a focal point because whatever is on the inside is what counts. Harlem Renaissance (Final): This is my final Harlem Renaissance piece. To create this, I researched about the Harlem Renaissance to get ideas and clashed them together. I used colored pencils and water color on this piece. Figure Proportions: In class, we studied the body and it's proportions. This is my final piece for this unit.
